If you can find somewhere that has a lot of options (or friends with collections) where you look at them, try handling a few. Different sizes do have an effect on feel. There are a couple color options with Waite... look into those. Some people prefer the faded, some the more vibrant.

I don't know your experience, but the Dummies (or is it Idiot's? the yellow one) guide comes with that deck and isn't a bad begining at all.
